Robert Tew was born (circa 1720) in Chowan (formed from Bertie, then later named Northampton, then Duplin, then Sampson) County, North Carolina, his father was John Tew, and his mother, Mary.[citation needed]
He married Eliza Cameron[1][2] about 1744 in North Carolina.
FamilySearch shows additional children and has dates for everyone, but very few sources; the birth date for Alexander does not agree with Tew (1992).

Summary
One text, in describing his grandson, Daniel Tew II (born 1782), briefly outlines the following:[5][2]

Daniel Tew (circa 1742-before 1790) married Jean, seven children
Research Notes
Disputed Origins
FamilySearch records indicate that his mother may have been either
Mary Elizabeth Bedo (ca. 1690-1743), or
Sarah Briggs (born Dec 1699 Berkley, Bristol, Massachusetts) - the latter seems unlikely because of the large land mass difference.
It is entirely possible that a different John Tew, husband of Elizabeth Bedo, is the correct parent set (for both Robert and his brother Daniel, or some other scenario of origins).
It is noted that a Robert Tew was christened 5 Jun 1709, in St Andrew Holborn, London,[6] so either the birth date and location is incorrect or if Bertie (later Chowan) County, North Carolina is known to a certainty, then that would help to rule out the particular John Tew who married Mary Bedo as parents. Traditional Tew researchers place his father as having been born in Halifax, North Carolina, so the St Andrew Holborn christening seems highly unlikely, though on FamilySearch it shows that his parents married at All Hallows, London (7 Sep 1707), but without an actual source record.
Regarding His Wife
The following references have been cited by some research as being supportive of Sarah Briggs as his mother, but review of these works is inconclusive:
Cutter, William Richard (1912)[7] A comment on the outcome of the Cutter review was added to her FamilySearch profile.
Downs, John P. & Fenwick Y. Hedley. (1921)[8] Review of Downs et. al. (1921), produced nothing definitive, but something about the page referenced is apparently incorrect.

Do we know to a certainty that this Robert was not born in England:

Upon review of Cutter reference, it's difficult to link Robert to John Tew and Sarah. Anyone wishing to review the text, the 1912 version is linked above (Google Books). Perhaps the latest reprint edition clears matters up, as the entire first page (1005) on Tew is difficult, at best: "The town records of Dighton show the birth of three children (to John and Sarah):
Henry (29 Oct 1729)
William (12 Sep 1731), and
Dorcas (26 Mar 1734)
