Josiah Thacher was born on April 26, 1667 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts. He was the son of Colonel John Thacher and Rebecca (Winslow) Thacher. He was a Deacon of the Church in Yarmouth, Massachusetts. He married Mary Hedge on February 25, 1690. Together, they had five children. He passed away on May 12, 1702 in Yarmouth, Massachusetts.

Josiah Thacher of Yarmouth died intestate and on 1 December 1702, his widow Mary was granted the administration of his estate. His inventory was taken
on 7 September 1702. His date of death was recorded in the heading of his inventory.[1] His estate was to be set out to his widow Mary, and his children Anthony (eldest son), Elisha, Josiah, Rebecca, and Mary.[2][3]
