Daniel Osborne Thomas was born around 1841 in Gloucestershire, England, the son of Sarah Thomas and Meshach Thomas.[1]
He married Catherine Anne Hanson on 2 February 1882 at Port Wakefield, South Australia.[2][3] Their son was Osborne Hanson Thomas (1883–1960).[4]
Daniel died in 1910 in Semaphore, South Australia.[5]
MR D. O. THOMAS. The news of the death of Mr D. O. Thomas, J.P., formerly of Point Morrison, K.I., who passed away at the Semaphore recently has been received with general regret through-out the Island. The late Mr Thomas had followed the occupation of a farmer and grazier on K.I. for 25 years and was one of our most highly respected residents. He had been a colonist of South Australia for 60 years. On Feb. 2nd. of this year our Hog Bay correspondent wrote as follows : — "Mr and Mrs Thomas, of Point Morrison, left K.I. by the Karatta on Monday last. Mr Thomas, whose health has been failing for a considerable time, has been a successful farmer and for many years a resident of Point Morrison. It is hoped an improvement in health will take place in his new surroundings. One feels regret that conditions arose necessitating departure, for in Mr Thomas we recognise one of our most energetic and successful pioneer farmers. Until ill-health prevented him Mr Thomas never failed, in spite of the great distance and oftentimes most inclement weather conditions, to journey to the polling booth at Hog Bay to record his vote, and holding fast to his principles and privileges of enfranchisement, let nothing deter him from his duty." The deceased gentleman leaves a wife and son to mourn their loss. Since his father's departure to the mainland Mr O. Thomas has been managing at Point Morrison.
