Biography

Porter was born in 1914. He passed away in 2006.

"Porter Charles Thomas, 92, of Blossom Town Drive, Franklin, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at a Sylva hospital.

A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Marion S. and Leona McClure Thomas. Mr. Thomas was twice married, first to the late Ethel Moffitt Thomas, who died in 1957, and second to the late Louise Farmer Thomas, who died in 1995.

He was a member of Black Mountain Baptist Church and worked as a demolition expert.

He is survived by five daughters, Shirley Myers and husband Bob of Franklin, Betty Sue Talley and husband Dennis of Dillard, Ga., Margaret McGaha of Franklin, Thelma Carpenter of Franklin and Katie Rowland and husband Mitchell of Franklin; four sons, Larry Thomas of Franklin, Ray Thomas of Ocean Isle, Lonnie Thomas and wife Diane of Franklin and Earl Thomas and wife Pat of Franklin; two stepdaughters, Euna Ray Carpenter and husband Billy of Sylva and Sue Farmer of Franklin; two stepsons, James W. Farmer and wife Mary Ann of Gainesville, Ga., and Jerry E. Farmer and wife Mary Lou of Franklin; a sister, Gladys McConnell of Franklin; two brothers, Marion Thomas Jr. of Hayesville and M.L. Thomas of Savannah, Ga.; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Bryant Funeral Home. Rev. Danny Cannon officiated.

Burial was in Black Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jake Thomas, Todd Thomas, Dennis Myers, Mark McGaha, Tim Carpenter, Dwayne Thomas, Brian Rowland and Marty Talley.
