This was written on the back of this old photo sent to my Father by his father, Harvey Monroe. It said on the back "The house behind them is on the "old King place in Whitt, Texas. I was born there as were all my brothers and sisters." Question from mgp: Who is Otho? ^[1]

Memories

Harvey Monroe Thomas was my grandfather (my Dad's father). I vividly remember him in my childhood until September 1942, when we moved from Texas to Arizona. He had a wonderful sense of humor--very jovial! My grandmother, Maggie, used to bake the most delicious biscuits I have ever tasted. When she brought the steaming hot delights to the table, "Paw-Paw" took over, placing bits of butter inside each one followed by a scoop of sugar. Then he asked us, "Who wants a soakie?" He was our great hero to all his grand children. How we loved him. ^[5]

Thomas Harvey Monroe Thomas, 75, a retired Texas Electric Service Co. employed died Monday evening in a Wichita Falls hospital. Funeral services are scheduled at 3 pm Wednesday in the Southside Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Carl Alcorn, pastor, and the Rev. Fred James, pastor of the Bethel Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park under direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home. Thomas, who lived on the Charlie Road, was born Feb 11, 1875. Survivors include three sons, Grady Thomas, Summerville, NJ; J. 0. Thomas, 2221 Broad, J. T. Thomas, No. 8 Manchester Road, two daughters, Mrs. H. J. Criswell, Charlie Road, and Mrs. Doyle Pitts, Wanette, Okla., a brother and a sister and 21 grandchildren.
