He married Marrion Turner 29 May 1846 in Slamannan, Stirlingshire.[1]
By the 1851 Scotland Census, John is now in possession of the 60 Acre Greendykeside Farm in New Monkland. Along with his wife Marrion, he now has two children - Andrew 2, and Janet 4 mos. Living with them are two servants Jean Grosart 14, the house servant, and Jane Erskine 12, the farm servant.[2]
John is still at Greendykeside Farm by 1881. He has increased his acreage to 80 acres, 50 of them arable. He is 60 years old as is his wife, Marrion. Living with them are their family: David 26, James 19, and Robert 15. Their granddaughter Mary Thomson 8, a farm servant, Emma Bigham 13, and a boarder, Alexander Cameron 25 [3]
By 1891, John and Marion were alone except for granddaughter Mary. John is 72 and Marion is 70. John has sold up and is now living at 2 Barrowmans Ld Hutchison St and is now a dairyman.[4]
