Charles Sidney was born in 1894. He was the son of James Thorburn and Lucy Chambers. [1] He passed away in 1918 age 23 [2] Charles Sidney Thorburn Service number 25651 served in the Army during World War 1. He was a Rifleman in the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion gave his next of kin as Mrs Lucy Thorburn (mother), of 9 Martha Street, Thames,He embarked 23 Sep 1916 aboard HMNZT 65 the vessel Pakeha as a Rifleman with the 8th Reinforcements 3rd Battalion, G Company of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade He was Killed in Action, 28 March 1918 at the Somme, Northern France and is buried at Euston Road Cemetery, in Colincamps, Somme, France (grave reference IV. A. 3.) [3]
