William was born in 1873. [1] He was the son of John Thorn and Mary Hill.
He married Johanna Merriman in 1894. [2]

The death occurred at the Crookwell District Hospital on Sunday of Mr. William Ernest Thorn, a well known Grabben Gullen farmer and grazier. The late Mr. Thorn, who was 57 years of age, had been an inmate of the hospital for only four days. He was a native of the Dalton district, having come to Grabben Gullen some 10 or 12 years ago. While residing in the latter district be became an enthusiastic farmer and grazier. He was well-known throughout the district and was highly esteemed. Mr. Thorn is survived by a widow, one son, Allan, of Grabben Gullen ; two sisters, Mrs. T. Alchin and Mrs. Medway, of Dalton ; and six brothers, Edward, Percy, John, Humphrey, George and Thomas, of Dalton. The burial took place yesterday at the Church of England portion of the Crookwell Cemetery. There was a very large attendance at the graveside.
