Also living with the family is Gardner Maine, 35. George is listed as a miller and Gardner as a farmer. Living next to the family is Jesse Stine and his wife, Phebe - the sister of Lucinda Thorn.^[1]

1870 - United States Federal Census - In 1870, Geo. W. Thorn, 50, is living in Liberty Township, Clinton County, Iowa, with his second wife, ER. E. Thorn, 53. Living with them are children from his first marriage, H. P. Thorn, 16; H.C. Thorn, 12; and W. C. Thorn, 10. George is listed as a dry goods merchant.^[2]|

1880 United States Federal Census - In 1880, G. W. Thorn, 63, is found in Liberty, Clinton County, Iowa, with his second wife, Rebecca, 70, and children, William, 22, and Thorn-514George W., 18. George is listed as a merchant and both of his sons as merchant's clerks.^[3]
