Johan Wilhelm Törngren was born in Baldursrum, Gamleby parish, 23 March 1828.[1] There were two older sisters and a brother in the family.[2]
Johan Wilhelm grew up with his parents.[3] In 1831 the family moved to Oxebo in Hallingeberg parish. By now there was a younger brother and sister in the family.[4] In 1834 they moved on to a farm in Frösvik in Blackstad parish.[5] Between 1834 and 1844 they lived in Backebyn in Blackstad; then they went back to Frösvik.[6] These frequent relocations are very typical for farmers who did not own their land.
When the family moved to Frösvik in 1844, Johan Wilhelm Törngren did not go with them. Instead he went to earn his bread on his own as a farm hand in the central village of Blackstad.[7] As a young worker, he moved more or less every year.
When Johan Wilhelm married Greta Lotta Dolk, 29 May 1851, he came from Korketorp in Dalhem parish.[8][9] They lived with her widower father in Grönstorp.[10][11][12]
Johan Wilhelm Törngren went to North America with his wife and children in April 1869.[13]
