George was born in 1783 in London, England. He was the son of George Thornhill and Mary Ann Hawkins.[1] His family owned an estate at Diddington, Huntingdonshire which he inherited.
He was educated at Eton and St John's College, Cambridge. He studied law and was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1805.
He married Charlotte Matilda Green, daughter of Charles in 1809 and they had 12 children together:
Three of his sons (George, John, Charles) were technically first class cricketers. George and Charles played a handful of matches for Cambridge University, and John a couple for the MCC.
He was High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire in 1836
He was elected as Member of Parliament for Huntingdonshire in 1837 until his death in 1852. He sat as a Conservative, but did not make any contributions or speeches.[2]
He was a Justice of the Peace and a Deputy Lieutenant of Huntingdonshire.
Shortly before his death he was living at Diddington with his wife, four unmarried daughters and 28-year-old son William.[3]
He passed away in 1852 in Marylebone, while still an MP.[4]
