Biography
Roland Thornton was my uncle, older brother of Dorothy Kenneth Thornton. Dorothy was born April 2, 1914. She told me of the orphanage. I do not know when she was sent there or how long she stayed, but it was a horrible experience as she recalled. The story behind it as told to me was that their father Miles died and Alma needed to work to survive. Alma was a nurse (she also had a club foot), and there was no one available to keep Roland and Dorothy when she worked. Incidentally, my mother Dorothy passed away July, 1993.
