Hayward Thorp was born in Middlesex, England.

In 1891, Hayward was living with his parents and sister in Islington, Middlesex. ^[2]

In 1901, Hayward was living with his parents and five younger siblings in Islington, Middlesex. He was a 14-year-old green grocer assistant. ^[3]

In 1911, Hayward was stationed in Tempe, Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa as a member of the 1st Battalion of the Cameronians Scottish Rifle. He was 25-years-old. ^[4]

In 1912, Hayward married Florence Boulter. The marriage was registered in Islington, Middlesex. ^[5]
