Biography

Charles was the second son of the Honorable John Thruston and his wife (and cousin) Elizabeth Thruston Whiting. He was born on February 26, 1793 at his parents' home,"San Souci".

Charles was a celebrated criminal lawyer.

Charles married Eliza Sydnor Cosby, the eldest child of Judge Fortunatus Cosby and Mary Ann Fontaine, on September 10, 1818.

Charles and Eliza had at least twelve children:

  • - Mary Eliza, born July 7, 1819, married Dr. Lewis Rogers on June 9, 1839, and died August 25, 1888.
  • - Eliza, born January 19, 1821; died in infancy
  • - John, born March 5, 1822; died in infancy
  • - Sidney Eliza, born January 16, 1824; married Thomas N. Hornsby on February 16, 1844 and died October 10, 1853
  • - John, second, born January 28, 1826; married Ellen Pope on December 14, 1858
  • - Emma Cosby, born June 5, 1827; died January 23, 1873
  • - Anna Blake, born May 16, 1829; married William J. Johnson, October 13, 1849
  • - Charles Mynn, born December 24, 1833; married Leonora Keller March 5, 1862, and died April 22, 1888
  • - Vernon Cosby, born May, 1834; died in infancy
  • - Barbara Fontaine, born February 11, 1835
  • - Elizabeth Pope, born 1837; died in early childhood
  • - Lewis Rogers, born 1839; died in infancy

Charles was buried on January 9, 1854.
