Biography

Charles left New York for Illinois & later Iowa. He was a farmer, Justice of the Peace & County Auditor in Howard county, Iowa. In the late 1870s he moved to New York City to work in his brothers' worldwide wholesale grocery company, H.K. & F.B. Thurber & Company.
10 children of Charles Stewart Thurber and Adaline Mary Rogers Thurber: #Adaline died in Cresco, Iowa, in about 1899
  1. Lois Elizabeth "Libby" Thurber, born, I think, about 1848+/- in Ogle County, Illinois, married David Chester Garver, died in Inwood, Lyon County, Iowa on January 28, 1892
  2. Thomas Rogers Thurber, born in Ogle County, Illinois, died in Howard County Iowa, in the early 1860's; died in his early teens
  3. Lucy Dunham Thurber, claimed to have been born in Howard County, Iowa, but may have been born before family settled in Howard County
  4. Charles Stewart Thurber, Jr. died in Florida May 17, 1888
  5. Abner Thurber (lived to adulthood, married, left Iowa...)
  6. John Rogers Thurber, born Dec. 12, 1869 in Iowa. As a boy he moved with father from Iowa to NY where he worked in the HK and FB Thurber wholesale grocery firm. He then went to Florida, where worked as a comptroller and county assessor.

  • Abram Edick (1856-1856).

"Libby," Lucy, Charles and John married and had children. Don't know whether Abner had children.
