John was born at Newport, Rhode Island on 10 April 1713, the son of Samuel and Abigail (Clarke) Thurston. He died on 1 March 1771, reportedly at Nantucket, Mass.
John married Mary Coffin on 7 January 1741.
John died intestate, and in November of 1772, his son John Thurston of Newport, hatter, and daughters Mary Starbuck and her husband Hezekiah Starbuck of Sherburn in Nantucket, mariner, petitioned for a division of their father's land.[1] Report of the division was made 12 June 1773, and shares were divided to Latham Thurston (eldest son), John Thurston, Hezekiah Starbuck and his wife Mary, Samuel Thurston, and Paul Thurston. The shares of Samuel and Paul were drawn by their guardian Mary Thurston.
