Bertha Cleora Tillery was born about 1905. She was the daughter of John P. Tillery and Sarah Tillery.[1]
In 1910 and 1920, Bertha is found with her parents and older brothers, in Muskogee, Oklahoma.[1][2]
Bertha married Ila Harvill on 15 April 1929, in Oklahoma. Her name was listed as Bertha C. Johnson on the license, and her age given as 24. [3][4]
Bertha and Isla had four children:
Helen
Margaret
Richard
Billy Ray
The family is found living in Greeley, Oklahoma in 1950.[5]
Bertha died in 1975 and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka, Seminole, Oklahoma.[6]
Research Notes
Additional research is needed to find a vital record to clarify Bertha’s birth date and place.
In the 1910 US Census, Bertha’s older brothers are listed as W.S. Tillery, age 22 and Jesse Tillery, age 17. Bertha’s age is given as 5. In the 1920 US Census, a brother, Jay P. is found, age 18. Bertha’s age is given as 14. More research is needed to sort out these brothers, and who may or may not be sons of Sarah.
More research is needed to determine if Bertha was married to a man named Johnson before she married Ila Harvill in 1929.
It appears that the town of Greeley, Oklahoma, was incorporated into the Capital Hill section of Oklahoma City sometime after the 1950 US Census.
