Samuel was born in 1826.
The son of Nathan and Margaret (Ross) Tindell, Samuel Tindell came to California by ox and wagon in 1860, arriving in San Joaquin County in 1880. He was a man who wore many hats: an inventor who designed a mechanized gate opener for horses and buggies, a peddler of fruit, a farmer, a trader, and a saw mill owner in Oregon. He and his first wife Amanda were the parents of six children: Margaret E., Martha, John Vincent, Nathan E., an infant son, and Wiliam H. With his second wife, Mary Ellen, he had five additional children: Pleasant Hay, May Belle, Ata B., Ella Ora, and Emma E.[1]
He passed away in 1892.
