14 Oct 1925 Durban, Natal, Phillip Valentine Tobias was a son of Joseph Newman Tobias and Fanny Rosendorff ^[1]

"Dr. Tobias, who never married or had children, said he would leave a legacy in the more than 10,000 students he had taught" ^[2]
