??, 250: "settled on the present homestead of Joseph B. Safford, and was the first physician in the north part of the town. He was a skillful and talented physician and tradition invests him with rare endowments. He was a lieutenant in the revolution. He died in 1793, from poison accidentally taken. His son, Jonathan, first settled near George W. Burt?s. He removed to Granville, where he was known as an intelligent and influential politician. About 1850, he kept the brick tavern at North Granville, whence he went west, but did not long survive."
