John is the father of Stuart Townend, the English Christian worship leader and writer of hymns and contemporary worship music.
The 1911 census shows John living at 7 St Anns St, Castleford, Yorkshire, England with his parents, uncle and grandmother. His father and uncle worked in the local coal mine.[2]
