Biography

John was born in 1909.^[1] He was the son of Edgar Townend and Charlotte Beedle.^[2][3]

John is the father of Stuart Townend, the English Christian worship leader and writer of hymns and contemporary worship music.

The 1911 census shows John living at 7 St Anns St, Castleford, Yorkshire, England with his parents, uncle and grandmother. His father and uncle worked in the local coal mine.^[2]

John married Alice Firth in 1934.^[4]

John was the vicar of Christ Church, Sowerby Bridge from 1974 until his death.

John passed away in a motor accident in 1985.^[1]
