George Washington Towns was born Jan 4, 1807 in that part of Keene, New Hampshire which was later set off to make the town of Roxbury. [1] He was son of John Town and Sukey. [2] His name is sometimes spelled TOWNE and other time spelled TOWNS.
George Towns and Laura Lawrence were married on Sept 1831. She was daughter of Capt. Asa and Lucy (Whitney) Lawrence of Roxbury. [1]
They settled first in Roxbury where all but their two youngest children were born. They had 9 children; Charles, Lucy, Lyman, Laura, Eveline, Emma Jane, Sarah Ann, Lora E., and George Woodbury. [1]
His wife Laura died March 5, 1858 and he married again in 1858 to Nancy Smith of Sullivan. [1] The New Hampshire record of this marriage does not include a date other than to say it was reported in the first quarter of 1859. [3] They had one child Betie E.
For the last twenty years of his life he resided in Marlborough, New Hampshire. George died Feb 15, 1874. [1] He is buried in Graniteveill Cemetery in Marlborough. [4]
