Ann (Townsend) Lee was born in England.
Ann (Townsend) Lee South African 1820 Settler and Descendants
Ann was born in England in about 1882 (she was 38 years old in 1820).
She married William Lee:[1]:
- William LEE of St. Botolph, Aldgate, married Ann TOWNSEND on 22 January 1800 in St. Martin in the Fields.
They had the following children:
- William Robert Lee
- George Lee
- Frederick Lee
- John Henry Lee
- Elisha Lee
- John Lee
William and his family came to the colony as members of Sephton's 1820 Settler Party:
- LEE, William 39. Butcher. w Ann 38. c George 13, Frederick 11, John Henry 10, Elisha 9
They sailed in the Aurora from Gravesend on 15 February 1820 and anchored in Simon's Bay on 31 April 1820. They reached Algoa Bay on 15 May. They were settled at a new location on the Assegai Bush River which became known as Salem, meaning 'peace'.
There is no trace of her death.[2]

DIED at the residence of Mrs. POTTER in Hill-street, Grahamstown, Mrs. Ann LEE, relict of the late Mr. W.LEE, in her [83rd] year. The deceased came to this country with the Salem party of Settlers of 1820.
