William Townsend (bef. 1829 - 1898)

Biography

William was born in Lund, Yorkshire, England, and baptised there in 1829. He was the son of William Townsend and Elizabeth Moorfoot.^[1] At the time of the 1841 census, the Townsends lived in Middleton on the Wolds, Yorkshire.^[2]

The family emigrated to Canada West (Ontario). At the time of the 1851 census, William lived with his mother and siblings in the sub-district of Dumfries, Brant county.^[3] He married Mary Ann Rowe in Waterloo county, on 24 December 1859;^[4] the family lived in Fullarton, Perth, in 1861.^[5]

Mary died^{[citation needed]} and William married Lavinia Ann Sheard.^{[citation needed]} By 1871 the Townsend family lived in Goderich, Huron, Ontario, where William was a farmer.^[6][7][8][9]

He died on 2 October 1898 in Goderich. The cause was given as "bronchitis, 4 months;"^[10] William was buried in Bayfield Cemetery, Bayfield, Huron, Ontario.^[11]
