William Townsend migrated from England to British Canada.
William was born in Lund, Yorkshire, England, and baptised there in 1829. He was the son of William Townsend and Elizabeth Moorfoot.[1] At the time of the 1841 census, the Townsends lived in Middleton on the Wolds, Yorkshire.[2]
The family emigrated to Canada West (Ontario). At the time of the 1851 census, William lived with his mother and siblings in the sub-district of Dumfries, Brant county.[3] He married Mary Ann Rowe in Waterloo county, on 24 December 1859;[4] the family lived in Fullarton, Perth, in 1861.[5]
He died on 2 October 1898 in Goderich. The cause was given as "bronchitis, 4 months;"[10] William was buried in Bayfield Cemetery, Bayfield, Huron, Ontario.[11]
