Ernest Toy RA was born in Cornwall, England.

Ernest Toy was born on about 24 July 1888, his birth being registered at Helston, Cornwall in the 3rd quarter of that year[1]. He was the son of John Toy and Elizabeth Bray.

By 1891 Ernest Toy (aged 3) was living at Cornorman, Stithians, Redruth, Cornwall, England with his parents and three siblings Lily Toy (16), Grace Toy (12) and Ethel Toy (5).

Ernest served in the 1st World War with the Royal Artillery (Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery), having enlisted on 5 May 1915. Service No. 141753

He married Emily Maud Hall in 1919 in Cornwall[2].

In the 1939 England and Wales Register Ernest Toy (aged 52) was recorded living with his wife Emily M Toy (48) and their three children Ernest Graham Toy (20), John Douglas Toy (18) and Muriel Grace Toy (17) at Ninnis Long Downs Penryn, Kerrier, Cornwall, England.

Occupation: Farmer

He was living at Little Halvossa, Mabe, Cornwall when he passed away on 6 November 1952[3] and was buried at St. Stythians Churchyard, Stithians, Cornwall Unitary Authority, Cornwall, England[4].

His Will was proved on 21 May 1953 at London to his widow Emily Maud Toy and his son Ernest Graham Toy, carpenter.
