He arrived in Detroit, Michigan, United States from Canada in February 1887[2] and made his way to North Dakota. He married Hannah Elizabeth Kermott on 13 November 1888, in Cass County, North Dakota.[3]
They were the parents of two sons and one daughter.
He declared naturalization on 14 January 1889 in LaMoure, LaMoure, North Dakota[2], which is where their first son Eldon was born in 1890. They lived in North Dakota for a while and moved by 1894 to Clinton Falls, Steele, Minnesota, where their second son Donald was born. The 1900 U.S. census shows William, Elizabeth and their two sons, living in St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota, where he was employed as a minister.[4] By or before 1903, they moved to Dallas County, Texas, where their youngest child, Margaret was born. The 1910 census shows William and his family living in Justice Precinct 8, Matagorda, Texas, where he was employed as a school teacher.[5] By or before 1920, William and his family moved to Mazarn Township, Garland, Arkansas.[6] The 1930 and 1940 census records shows William and Hannah living in Brodie Township, Pulaski, Arkansas.[7][8]
Occupation
The 1900 census shows he was employed as a minister; the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records shows he was employed as a school teacher, and by 1940 it appears he had retired from teaching and was recorded in the census as a farmer.
Death
William Henry Travis, age 86, died 18 May 1949, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas, United States. The informant listed on the death certificate was William's daughter Mrs. C. R. Wilkey (aka Martha).[1]
Research Notes
Birth date, 9 September 1860, recorded on his death certificate, seems to be
inconsistent with some of the census records, however, his daughter Margaret provided the information, so assume she knew his birth date, but perhaps she was off by a year. Tirey-10 08:53, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
