Lloyd was born in Roche, Cornwall, on 23 May 1916, the youngest of four surviving siblings.[1] He was named after the Liberal politician, David Lloyd George. [2]
He married Gladys Beatrice Symons in 1939.[3] The couple had three children.
Lloyd worked all his life as a master baker, except during the Second World War, when he served in the Royal Air Force.[2]
After the early death of his wife Gladys (Topsy) in 1974, he married Freda Iles (nee Sherlock) in 1975.[4]
Lloyd passed away at Treliske Hospital, Truro, on 12 October 2008, aged 92. [5][6]
TRETHEWEY. Peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, 12th October 2008. Lloyd aged 92 years of Newquay and formerly of the West End Bakery, Bugle. Beloved Husband of Freda and the late Gladys (Topsy), loving Father of Ann, Barbara & Michael and a much loved Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great Great Grandfather. Funeral service and committal service at Newquay Wesley Church on Thursday, 23rd October at 11:00 a.m. followed by private cremation. Family flowers only but donations in lieu for the Newquay Wesley Church may be sent c/o The Funeral Director Andrew Henwood, 74 Edgcumbe Ave, Newquay, TR7 2NN[7]
His memorial at Roche Cemetery reads:
Lloyd George Trethewey 1916-2008 master baker; and Gladys Beatrice (Topsy) 1920-1974; Together at last; Forever loved.[8]
