Sydney Trewartha was born on 5 Jul 1888 in Kapunda South Australia, the son of Elisha Trewartha and Janet (or Jenet) Napier. ^{[1] [2]}

On 22 Jun 1895, in Bookabie, South Australia, Sydney married Sarah Malvina Gray, the daughter of Frank Gray and Fanny Wilson Button. ^{[2] [3]}
