Biography

Homer Alvin Trisler, Jr. was the second of six children born to Homer Alvin Trisler, Sr. and his second wife, Fanny Elizabeth (Alexander) Trisler. His siblings are -Thelma Eileen Trisler (born 29 April 1917, married Fred Luther Kern 31 March 1934, died 1 August 1989) -Waneta Inez Trisler (born 12 September 1920, married Hugo Leon Houston--brother of Alvin's wife Bonita on 6 Jun 1939, died 2 November 1993) -Wayne Everett Trisler (born 4 January 1922, died 11 February 1993) -Leota L. Trisler (born 30 March 1924, married Warren "Pat" Patterson 1 February 1945, died 2014) -Mildred Fern Trisler (born March 1926, married several times, died 12 March 2017. Mary Alice "Hazel" Trisler, born March 1909, was a half-sister, daughter of Homer Alvin Trisler, Sr.'s first wife. Alma Alice (Temples) Trisler, who died in childbirth on 9 January 1911. Their son, Jesse Carlisle Trisler, was born 3 January 1911 and died on 12 January 1911.

Doc served in the CCC in the late 1930s before his marriage to Bonita Louise Houston on 5 September 1939. They were married for nearly 72 years before her death on 14 June 2011. Doc worked at RCA in Bloomington as a maintenance mechanic for more than 40 years. He played on several local softball teams, primarily as catcher, for more than 15 years and coached Babe Ruth League baseball for several years following his playing career. For more than 25 years, he was an usher/guard for Indiana University football and basketball games and was recognized as an honorary captain for the 2010 men's basketball team at their game with Wisconsin on 25 February; he was also recognized for his service to the football team at a home game with Iowa in the 2010 season. During basketball games, Doc could be seen during each game at his familiar post near the Indiana bench.

In retirement, his hobbies were his work with the IU basketball and football teams, genealogy, and serving as elder in his church where he volunteered to keep the church heating working, ushered for services and served on the governing committee.
