DESTINY OF JAPAN CONTINENTAL PLANS AGREEMENT WITH NAVY THE BEST FROM THE WEST A word-picture of a Japan dominated by the army and working towards a totalitarian regime on the model of Germany, with intense industrialisation already completed, and' a definite plan for continental expansion, was given to members of the Gisborne Rotary Club to-day by Mr. H. W. F. Troughton, who recently returned from Japan after having worked there for several years, in company with his wife, in the mission field. [1]

Mr. H. W. F. Troughton, a returned missioner from Japan, who has been acting as pastor for the Presbyterian Church for Putaruru and Tirau, has been appointed chaplain to the Japanese prisoner of war camp in New Zealand.,[2]

A group of Japanese officers and n.c.o. s at a prisoner-of-war camp in New Zealand approached the Swiss Consul and Red cross agent when they visited the camp recently with a request for someone to teach them the truths of the Christian religion, states the Outlook. The request was transmitted to the military authorities, and resulted in the appointment of Mr. H W. F. Troughton as chaplain to the camp. Mr. Troughton was for six years a missionary in Japan with the interdenominational Central Japan Pioneer Mission, and has since been minister of the Tirau-Putaruru charge. [3]
