Note: The way the census does estimated years would mean they were married in 1876 or 1877. I have not seen a marriage record. The place of marriage is assumed from the fact that both were born there and there is no record of them ever living anywhere else.

Death

Date of death is from Find a Grave, place is assumed from last known residence, and burial place.

Later: Death date confirmed by an obituary from the Ontario County Journal [Canandaigua, NY], dated Friday, Feb 11, 1916, transcribed by Dianne Thomas, on New York Roots. Obit states he died "Sunday," which would indeed be the 6th. It also says he died in "Memorial Hospital." I have not been able to positively identify the hospital (in the area: Noyes Memorial, Strong Memorial, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial, poss. more). The hospital may have closed or changed its name since 1916. Gives his wife and four children as surviving, with married names of two daughters. Also confirms burial place (below).

• Source: S1 United States Census, 1850. Shows Augustus, age 2, with parents, 4 siblings, and his uncle Jeremiah Decker, age 22, in the household. Family living in Town of Campbell, Steuben county, New York. Father's occupation is given as farmer (image).

• Source: S2 New York, State Census, 1855. Shows Augustus, age 6 (est. birth 1849) with parents and 7 siblings, all children born Steuben County (image). This shows them living in Town of Bath, Steuben county.

• Source: S3 United States Census, 1860. Shows Augustus, age 11 (est. birth year, 1849). His name given as A. A. Father's name misspelled "Augustine" (poss. handwriting/transcription problem), and misspells the family name "Trumbul" (one L). Shows him with parents, 9 siblings, living in the Hamlet of Sonora, Steuben county, New York. Sonora is a tiny hamlet on New York route 226, about halfway between the slightly larger Savona and Bradford, NY.

• Source: S4 New York, State Census, 1865. Gives his name as A. A., Jr., age 16 (source for "Jr.," still don't know the middle name). Misspells his father's name "Augustin," and the surname "Trumble." Shows him with parents and 10 siblings, all children born Steuben County (image). Still living in Town (aka, township) of Bath, Steuben county. Occupation for him, brother James, and father, farmer (image).

• Source: S5 United States Census, 1870. Enumerated 26 Jul 1870, shows him, age 21 with father and 8 siblings. His mother died the previous month. Also in the household, 3-year-old Louise Nash; I have not identified her, or her connection to the family.

• Source: S7 New York, State Census, 1892. Shows Augustus, age 44, living in the Town (aka township) of Canandaigua, Ontario county (occup. farmer). This census enumeration sheet has very minimal information about the people listed, and it is not even clear where one household ends and the next begins. I surmise the following from the image of the enumeration sheet: With wife Melissa, age 39, four children ages 6-18. Also in the household, Betsey Saunders, age 69, and Alice Saunders, age 31. Pending verification, I assume these are Melissa's widowed mother and her sister.

• Source: S8 United States Census, 1900. Shows him, age 52 (born Oct 1848) with wife Melissa, 46 (b. Jan 1854), 3 children (Satie, 21, b. Aug 1879; Hervey ("Henry"), 19, b. Jul 1881; Celia, 13, b. Oct 1877). Shows them married 23 years (est. marr. year, 1877).

• Source: S9 New York, State Census, 1915. Misspells his name, "Augusta H" (handwriting/transcription problem [image:Ancestry.com]). Shows him age 67, wife Melissa, age 61, three children in household, ages 21-35. Daughter Satie (Sadie?) listed as "Hadie" here (another handwriting/transcription problem). Son Hervey's name now legible ("Henry" on 1900 census).

• Source: S11 New York, County Marriages, 1847-1848; 1908-1936. Marriage of son, Hervey Saunders Trumbull. Identifies Augustus Trumbull and Melissa Saunders as his parents. Also usual marriage info - spouse, her parents, date/place of marriage, etc.

• Source: S13 New York, County Marriages, 1847-1848; 1908-1936. Marriage of daughter, Celia Melissa Trumbull. Misspells surname "Trumble." Identifies Augustus Trumbull and Melissa Saunders as her parents. Also usual marriage info - spouse, his parents, date/place of marriage, etc.

• Source: S14 FindAGrave.com. Source for cemetery, exact date of death. I have submitted a correction for this, don't know when/if it will be corrected: He is linked as his own father, making him also his own son, and the brother of his son Hervey (info as of 14 Aug 2015). There is currently no memorial page for his father; his mother is correctly linked.
