William Turner was born in Yorkshire, England.

William was the second born son of Philip Turner and his wife Edith Gylminge. He was baptised at All Saints Pavement in York on 7 June 1597. ^[1]

William inherited the Towthorpe Manor estates of his Uncle, Launcelot Turner in 1619. About two years later he married Thomasine Newton at Huntington, Yorkshire. Their marriage took place on 14 Jan.

William and Thomasine had about 17 children. The first three were all baptised at Huntington.

The next group of children were baptised in York in the parish of York, St Olave. They included:

In 1640 the next child is recorded in the register of the united parishes of Saint John del Pike and Holy Trinity Goodramgate:

• Judith, the daughter of Mr. William Turner, on 16 July 1640, and of the burial of the same child on 3 Aug in the same year. ^[14]

Four more children were born and baptised at Worsborough, Yorkshire. The family were at the time living in a property that later became known as Marrow House. ^[15] They were:

• Jane (1645)^[16]

He died within a month after the date of his will, and was buried in the church of the Holy Trinity Goodramgate, on Oct. 3, 1665 ^[17]

His wife survived him nearly sixteen years. “Mrs. Turner, widow,” was buried in the church of the Holy Trinity Goodramgate, on 11 Sep 1681. ^[18] Administration of the goods of “Thomasine Turner of York,” who died intestate, was granted by the archbishop’s court to her daughter Mary Turner, spinster, on 2 Dec, 1681.
