Biography of Arthur Campbell TURNER of 1844

Arthur Campbell Turner was born in 1844 in Madison County, Florida, the son of David Benjamin Turner and his wife Mary Campbell.

By 1848, the David B. Turner family had moved to Benton County, Florida ( now part of Hernando County) and later, they moved to Tampa, Florida and then to Indian Rocks Beach by 1851.

As an adult, Arthur Campbell Turner owned a mercantile located in his log cabin home, and a published a newspaper, the Hillsborough Times, a forerunner of the Saint Petersburg Times and the Tampa Bay Times.

Arthur Campbell Turner was married three times. His first two wives died in childbirth, and his third wife died in 1915. He outlived them all, and sired 19 or 20 children.

Arthur Campbell Turner married his first wife Keziah Frances Kilgore. The marriage ended in 1885 with the death of Keziah on December 26, 1885, one day after giving birth to their ninth child Edgar Turner, who was born December 25, 1885.

Arthur Campbell Turner and Keziah had nine children:

Arthur Campbell Turner married his second wife Lillian Eugenia Turner on October 3, 1886 in Madison County, Florida. The couple moved to Clearwater, Florida.

Arthur Campbell Turner had five more children in ten years with Lillian.

  • Alfred Cleveland Turner who built a bungalow home in Clearwater, Florida in 1915 that is now in Heritage Park Village in Largo, Florida.

Arthur Campbell Turner lost his wife Lillian Eugenia Ramage Turner on April 21, 1896 in childbirth of their youngest son Jesse Turner.

Arthur Campbell Turner married a third time to Anna Lydia Kempton after 1896. Arthur and Anna had five more children between 1898 and 1902. Anna lived on until 1915, and by the time she died most of the children were grown.

Arthur Campbell Turner passed away on September 29, 1929.
