Biography

Prudence Turner was born 8 Mar 1731/32 at Groton, Connecticut, daughter of Ezekiel Turner and Borodel Denison.

Note: A high level of care should be observed to distinguish this Prudence Turner from the Prudence Turner, born 21 Sep 1730, daughter of Rebecca (Chesebrough) & Samuel Turner.

Per the Palmer Groups reference source on p. 142 [[1]], this is the Prudence Turner who married 8 May 1753 at Stonington, Connecticut, Moses Palmer [b. 29 Oct 1730, son of Dorothy (Noyes) & John Palmer]], with whom she had 3 children:

1. Moses Palmer, b. 23 Nov 1755
2. Abigail Palmer, b. 2 Mar 1757
3. Gilbert Palmer, b. 21 May 1760

Note, though, that these same 3 children are currently attached to the other Prudence Turner. The clues as to which Prudence Turner married the relevant Moses Palmer are found on p. 141 of the same Palmer Groups reference, which states: November 24, 1755, Moses and Prudence Palmer, gave a quit-claim of all their rights in the estate of her late deceased father Samuel Turner, and of their mother Mrs. Rebecca Turner, to their elder brother Samuel Turner. (Land records, Vol. 7, p. 20.) A deed is recorded from Samuel Turner, wife Rebecca, parents of Prudence, wife of Moses Palmer, their daughter. (Ibid, Vol. 7, p. 237.) These passages clearly illustrate that the entry on p. 142 as to the parentage of Prudence Turner (who married Moses Palmer) were typographical errors; thus the current spousal and descendancy attachments are correct.

Per the Denison Genealogy (1963), this Prudence Turner m Samuel Fox (1724-1809) ^[1]. There were perhaps 11 children of this union, some of whom are listed in their online memorial sites:

• Ezekiel Fox (1756 - 1844)
• Thankful Fox (1759 - 1838)
• Elijah Fox (1761 - 1847)
• Jabez Fox (1763 - 1783)

Prudence Turner died 24 Jan 1823 ^[2] at Oakdale, Connecticut. Her grave is in Fox Cemetery Montville, New London County, Connecticut, USA ^[3].

Notes

Several dates for the spousal relationship of Prudence Turner with Samuel Fox have been speculated, ranging from 1748 to 1753 ^[4]. It is difficult to verify that they actually did marry, particularly in view of the grave stone for Prudence Turner which is clearly inscribed "Consort of Samuel Fox."
