OBITUARY: Funeral services for Jerry Turnipseed, 65, of McDade, will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church in McDade with Rev. Eric Ackerman officiating. Burial will follow in the McDade Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home and Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 7:00 am until 8:00 am.
Jerry Paul Turnipseed was born on November 8, 1957 in Elgin, Texas, the son of Doyle Ray and Elvira Marie (Stiewert) Turnipseed. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Faith Lutheran Church in McDade. Jerry graduated from Lexington High School, the class of 1976. Jerry was united in marriage to Claudia Lemming on October 19, 1985 at Faith Lutheran Church. To this union they were blessed with five children. He went on to develop a career with Elgin Butler Brick Company as a Brick Shaper. Jerry enjoyed driving his tractor and cutting field with his brother, assisting with DST Hay Baling business in McDade for many years. He enjoyed hunting especially in Colorado, fishing, and raising peanuts and hay. Jerry loved working the cattle with his daughter, BBQing, and watching all the family sporting events. He would stop everything to spend time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
He passed away the morning of Sunday, July 16, 2023 at his home in McDade.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle Ray and Elvira Turnipseed; nephew, Jason Turnipseed; mother-in-law, Marianne Lemming; father in law, Alfons Lemming.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia Turnipseed of McDade; five children, Joshua Turnipseed of Brenham, Amanda Myers and husband David of Clute, Sonia Kelly and husband Kyle of Temple, Cody Turnipseed of McDade, and Amber Turnipseed and her significant other Jason Dube of McDade; Five grandchildren, McKenna Kelly of Temple, Madasyn Kelly of Temple, Luke Myers of Clute, Dawson Myers of Clute, and Henry Myers of Clute; two brothers, Dale Turnipseed and wife Debbie of Elgin, and Ray Turnipseed and wife Carola of Lexington; step mother, Maxine Turnipseed of McDade; step sister, Benita Dees and husband Wade of Elgin as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be, Gene Muery, Phillip Flowers, Shawn Bostic, Darrell Griffith, Michael Johnson, Ryan Eller. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Scott, Christopher Wolf, Scott Rother, and George Moore.
Memorials have been requested to be given to Faith Lutheran Church or a youth hunting and fishing program of one’s choice.
