Biography

Samuel Jacob Tweedale was born at Healey, near Rochdale, Lancashire, England in 1851.^[1] He was baptised on 25th January 1852 at Christ Church, Healey, Lancashire, to parents Abraham and Elizabeth Tweedale.^[2]

He was recorded on the 1861 census with his parents, Abraham and Elizabeth, and his elder brother and sister at Lowerfold, Spotland, Lancashire, where his father was a Wool Carder.^[3]

In 1871, Samuel J. Tweedale was living as a boarder in the household of Stephen Robison and his family at 11 Church Street, Liscard, Cheshire. Samuel's occupation was Cotton Broker and his elder sister Mary Ann Tweedale was a visitor in the same household.^[4]

He married Fanny Aitken at Christ Church, Southport, Cheshire on 9th February 1876.^[5][6][7]

On the 1881 census, Samuel and Fanny lived in Broughton, Lancashire with their daughter Florence May.^[8]

In 1891, Samuel was a Hotel Proprietor at the White Hart, High Street, Guildford, Surrey. He lived with his wife Fannie, and four children.^[9]

In 1901, Samuel and Fannie lived at St German's Road, Lewisham, London, with four of their children. Samuel was a retired Cotton Broker.^[10]

He died in 1908, in Lewisham District, London, aged 57.^[11]
