Biography

Elizabeth Twiss aka Twist was born in 1837 in Dunham Massey, Bowdon parish, Cheshire, England to John Twiss/Twist and Jane (Timperley) Twiss/Twist.

Elizabeth Twist, daughter of John, a labourer, & Jane, residing at Dunham, was christened on 2 Jul 1837 in Bowdon.^[1][2]

In 1841 Elizabeth Twist (age 5) lived in the Hamlet of Dunham Wood in Bowdon with her father John (26), mother Jane (30), brother Nathan (1), and relative Elizabeth Timerley (10).^[3]

Elizabeth's mother passed away in 1846.

In 1851 Elizabeth Twist (age 14) lived in Dunham Massey with her father John (35, Labourer).^[4]

Elizabeth Twist married Joseph Bancroft on 26 Dec 1859 in Manchester, Lancashire.^[5] The marriage was registered in Manchester in the last quarter of the year.^[6]

• Unable to locate youngest daughter Elizabeth - there is no record that she died, so perhaps she was also adopted.
