Biography

Birth

Andreas was born on October 14, 1857 in the village of Johannestal in the Beresan district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Matthaeus Ulmer and Katharina (Delzer) Ulmer. He was the first of his father's 12 children and the first of his mother's 5 children.^[1]

Immigration

On September 1, 1874, at the age of 16, Andreas, along with his parents and their blended family made the journey to America. They departed from Hamburg, Germany aboard the S.S. Schiller and arrived in New York, NY.^[2]

Family

In 1878, at the age of 21, Andreas married Christiana Steiger (1860-1931) in South Dakota.^[3]

Death

On April 14, 1912, at the age of 54, Andreas passed away in Yankton, County, SD. He is buried in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Congregation Cemetery in Hutchinson County, SD.^[4][5]

Age 52, living in Molan, Hutchinson, SD with his wife of 31 years, 7 children, and a servant. He was working as a farmer.^[7]
