In memory of Mr. & Mrs. W. C. Underwood who gave land for this church. William and Elizabeth gave this land for the church on 14 Oct 1861.
Date of death based on tax record for 1864, which has wife's name.

New Prospect Church } day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred sixty-one between William C. Underwood & Elizabeth Ann Underwood his wife of the first part & William H Barrett, Hamford Barrett & Henry A. Grice, Trustees for New Prospect Regular Baptist Church of the second part. Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for & in consideration of the sum of one dollar in hand paid by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted, bargained & sold & by these presents to grant, bargain & sell unto the said parties of the second part & their successors in office all the following described piece or parcel of land situated as follows to wit – four acres to be laid off in a squqre in the North West corner of the West half of the South West quarter of Section ten Township either Range ten East in the county of Newton & state of Mississippi, together with all & singular the h___ditaments & appurtenances there unto belonging & in any wise appertaining & the _____ or reversions remainder or remainders, rents, ___ & profits thereof, and all the estate right, title in land & claims & demands whatsoever of the said party of the first part within law or equity of, in & to the above bargained premises with the h___ditaments & appurtenances to have & to hold the said premises above bargained & described with the appurtenances unto the said parties of the second part for the use of the church aforesaid & their assigns forever once the said parties of the first part for their heirs & executors & administrators do covenent6, grant, bargain & agree to & with the said parties of the second part & their sucessors in office, that at the time of the unsealing & deloieer of these presents were lawfully seized of the premesis above conveys as of a ____ , sure, perfect & absolute & in defeasible estate of inheritance in law infer simple & )))) good rightfull power & lawful authority to grant, bargain, sell & convey the same in manner & form aforesaid & that the same are free & clear from all forms & other grants bargains, sales, liens, taxes, assessments incumbrances of what kind or nature soever, and the above bargained premesis in quiet & peaceable ____ of the said parties of the second part & their successors in office & assigns against all & every person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim the whole or any part thereof, the said party of the first part shall & will warrant & forever defend. In witness whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their honor & seals the day & year first above written.
