MR. GEORGE FREDERICK UNDERWOOD. After a very long and painful ill- ness, death came as a happy release to the sufferings of. Mr. George Fred- erick Underwood, at his residence at Harrington, last Monday, 16th inst. Deceased was born at Forster 64 years ago, and was the second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Under- wood, his father, for many years, be- ing in charge of the Forster Public School. After completing his education, the subject of this notice worked for some years on the construction of the Forster breakwater, and subse- quently became .an employee of his brother-in-law, the late Mr, Albert von Ehlefeldt, storekeeper, of Fors- ter, in the capacity of shop assistant, carter, and on the dealing boat of the firm which operated on Wallis Lake, Coolongolook, and Wang Wauk Rivers, In, his faithful carry- ing out of the duties of these, he became widely known, and was greatly esteemed by his fellowmen for his conscientiousness and his straightforward dealing. He was a keen lover of music and was no mean adept on the accordion and gave valued help playing for dances in the public halls of the dis- trict, and charitable objects always found him a willing helper and splen- did organiser. He left Forster sev- eral years ago, to live at Harrington, and occasionally returned to his na- tive town where he was always given the glad hand by welcome by a legion of friends:. The late Mr. Underwood is surviv- ed by a widow, who is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Mills, of Tuncurry, and one daughter, Mrs. Minett (Minnie), of Lansdowne. Mrs. Robert Myers, of Forster, is a sister, and is now the only surviving member of the family of eight, of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Underwood. The interment took place yester- day (Tuesday), in the Dawson ceme- tery. , Pastor Warden conducted the service. Mr. W. T. Howard was the undertaker. — From our Forster cor- respondent.
