Biography

Hester "Ann" Morris/Morrish was born in or before 1801 in Queen Camel, Somerset, England to John Morris and Ann.

Hester Morris, daughter of John & Ann, was christened on 18 Jan 1801 in Queen Camel.[1]

Esther Morrish married Robert Coles [aka Robert Aplin Coles] on 6 Jan 1831 at St James' in Taunton, Somerset - the witnesses were Charles Coles & Sarah Elsworthy.[2][3]

Hester and Robert had six children:

  1. John Coles (1831-)
  2. Charles Aplin Coles (1834-1911)
  3. Robert Aplin Coles (1837-)
  4. James Yarde Coles (1840-1919)
  5. Mary Ann Coles (1842-1864)
  6. Henry Thomas Coles (1846-1939)

In 1841 Ann Coles (age 34 [~40]) lived at Langford in Norton Fitzwarren, Somerset with her husband Robart (33, Labourer) and four sons: John (10), Chas (7), Robt (4), and James (1).[4][5]

In 1851 Hester Coles (age 51) lived at Shuttern in Taunton St Mary Mag with her husband Robert (43, Road Man) and six children: John (19, Road Man), Charles (17, Road Man), Robert (14, Road Man), James (19 [~11], Scholar), Mary Ann (8, Scholar), and Henry Thomas (5, Scholar).[6][7]

In 1861 Hester Coles (age 60) lived at Shuttern in Taunton St Mary Mag with her husband Robert (54, Scavenger Under Board of Health) and son Henry (15, General Labourer).[8][9]

Hester's husband passed away in early 1871.

In 1871 Ann Coles (age 70) lived at Standfasts Court Shuttern in Taunton St Mary Magdalene.[10]

In 1881 Ann Coles (age 80, Almshousewoman) lived at Grays Almshouses in Taunton St Mary Magdalen.[11][12]

In 1891 Ann Coles (age 90, Inmate of Alms House) lived at 2 Grays Alms Ho, East Street in Taunton St Mary.[13][14]

Hester Coles passed away in 1896, aged 95 years. Her death was registered in Taunton in the first quarter of the year.[15]
