Biography

“The German home of this Palatine family was at 5419 Freirachdorf (22 km. n.e. of Neuwied).”[1]

30 July 1702 Niclaus Hess married Veronica Catharina (Unknown).

”...a notation in the chbk. mentioned that the couple had lived together a long time previous to their marriage in whoring and had an illegitimate child...”[1]

1709 Niklaas Hesche, his wife and one child were listed in the 6th party of Palatines in Holland.[1][2]

4 July 1710 Niclaus Hess makes his first appearance on the Hunter Rolls with two persons over 10 years and three persons under 10 years. On 4 August 1710 this changes to three persons over 10 years and two persons under 10 years.[1][3]

It says they "lived together... in whoring." While I suppose there could have been prostitution, it's also possible they simply lived together without being married.
