Not much is known about Mary. She was born circa 1828 in the United Kingdom (possibly in Lancashire) and married a man named Robert Martin. They had at least one child, Edith Elizabeth (although there are sources that suggest two other daughters Alice and Sarah).
In 1855, Mary immigrated to the United States on the Underwriter, bringing along her infant daughter Edith Elizabeth. They were the only members of the Martin family on that voyage.
Mary and her infant arrived in New York, New York and eventually Elizabeth appears in West Virginia, marrying Issac Palmer. It is not known what became of her mother Mary at this time.
