Harriot, daughter of Howell Shoyer & Mary Shoyer, was baptised on 23 February 1814 in Medstead, Hampshire, England.[1]

Harriett (full age), daughter of Howell Shoyer, married Thomas Tyrell on 30 September 1837 in Ropley, Southampton, England. [2] With Thomas she had one son, William Tyrrell,[3] and a daughter Mary Ann Tyrrell.[4]

They emigrated to Nelson, New Zealand in 1841 on the Bolton. Her husband was listed as an agricultural labourer and the children were aged 3 and 1.[5]

After her first husband's death during the Wairau Affray in 1843[6]she married Benjamin Hughes.[7] He died before her.

They had one child, Henry Hori Hughes.[8]

She passed away on 19 May 1870 when she drowned in the Wai-iti River after trying to cross it whilst a passenger in a coach.[9] She died intestate.[10]
