Biography

Uncertain Origin and surname

At this point there seems to be no proof that the wife of Henry Tewksbury/Tukesbury was Hannah Knight, daughter of Capt. John and Bathsheba (Ingersoll) Knight.

According to Savage's "Genealogical Dictionary", Captain John's first daughter named Hannah was born 22 Mar 1662 (double year not stated) and died young. Savage listed her father John as "of Newbury".[1] She appears in Newbury Vital Records with a birth transcribed as 22 Mar 1661/62.[2][3]

When Hannah died 30 Jul 1664 at Newbury[4] , she was listed as a daughter of John Knight "Jr" since her father was the son of a John Knight. Her older brother John Knight was apparently known as known as "Jr" from his 1672 marriage to Rebecca Noyes until the death of their father John in 1677.

Hannah was followed by another Hannah, daughter of John of Newbury born 30 Aug 1664.[2]. However, Hannah Knight married James Noyes on 31 Mar 1684 at Newbury per Newbury Vital Records, so the basis for the assertion that the wife of Henry Tukesbury was "Knight" is uncertain. Or if she was "Knight", possibly she was daughter of a different man (although apparently not a daughter of John Knight "Jr", son of the immigrant as John Jr's will listed no daughter Hannah.

Cutter in "New England Families" provides no details about this Henry Tukesbury beyond his birth date[5] and Hoyt in "Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury" says only that her name was Hannah.[6]

The original bio stated this information without source (other than a link to daughter Naomi Tukesbury which only proves a first name of "Hannah", not a surname):

She married Henry Tukesbury/Tewkesbury/Tewksbury, son of Henry and Martha (Copp) Tewksbury, in 1689 at Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts[citation needed] - parents of Henry, Jonathan, Hannah, Philip, Naomi, Jane, John, Abner and James Tewksbury. Note: no such marriage is found in "New England Marriages to 1700" or in Newbury vital records.

She passed away in 1746 at Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts.[citation needed]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hannah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hannah:

Simplifying my earlier comment, please change the last name at birth to "Unknown" lacking any source for "Knight" and detach current parents. Primary sources showing the known daughters of John Knight and Bathsheba Ingersoll are attached to their profiles (first Hannah died as an infant, second married James Noyes).

Thanks!
