Martha was the daughter of John Upham and Patty Bines. She was born August 16, 1807 in Palmer, Massachusetts.[1][2] She was often known by the nickname "Patty." In 1828, she married Abner Gilbert of Leverett, Massachusetts.[3][4]
As of the 1850 Census, Abner and Martha Gilbert were living in Leverett, Massachusetts, with four children. [5]
The 1865 Massachusetts state census recorded 62-year-old farmer Abner Gilbert in Leverett, Massachusetts, with Martha Gilbert, 57, Lewis H. Gilbert, 30 and also a farmer, Elmira Gilbert, 23, Anna M. Gilbert, 22, and Jennie M. Gilbert, 28. All were born in Massachusetts; Abner, Martha, Lewis, and Elmira were married; Anna and Jennie were single. [6]
She died June 28, 1885,[7][8] probably in Leverett, Massachusetts. She is buried in the East Leverett Cemetery there.[9]
