Daniel Mackenzie Ure was born in Eldon Township, Canada West (present-day Ontario), on 25 November 1853.^[1]

Real estate and fire insurance agent. Born Eldon Township Ontario 25 November 1853, son of Isabella and James Ure, who was soldier in the British army, 1793 to 1814 with the 71st regiment of Foot and fought in the battles of Corunna, Vimeria and Rohia. His maternal grandfather Sargeant Ross of Durnoch Scotland was wounded in the battle of Waterloo. Educated country schools apprenticed to harness maker and saddler in Woodville Ontario 1867. Came to Winnipeg in 1878 counsellor municipality of Morris 1882-1883 Secretary-Treasurer 1884 to 1893 secretary treasurer rural municipality of Morris and police magistrate since 1904,counsellor town of Morris several years Mayor of Morris 1903, 1905, several years member and chairman of Morris school board. Married Annie Anger Winnipeg 1882 has 2 sons and 5 daughters. Societies AF and AM, IOOF, COF, AOUW, LOL conservative Presbyterian address Morris Manitoba. He died at Winnipeg on 3 September 1925
