Biography

Matilda (Uttley) Chaplin was born in Yorkshire, England.

Matilda Utley was born in 1863 in Haworth, Yorkshire, her birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1864 in the Keighley district.^[1] She was the daughter of Timothy Uttley and Hannah Ogden.

In 1871 at the age of 8, Matilda was working as a Worsted Spinner and living with her parents and siblings In Oxenhope. She was one of at least 12 children. ^[2] In 1881 the family were living in Bingley, Yorkshire. ^{[3] [4]} Both her parents had died by 1901, and she was living with two of her sisters in Haworth. ^[5]

On 19 March 1904 she married Walter Chaplin at St John's Wesleyan Chapel, Park View Road, Bradford. ^{[6] [7]} They lived in Haworth and had a son Alfred in 1905. Walter worked as Wool Sorter. ^{[8] [9]}

Matilda of 5 Robert Street, Cross Road, near Keighley, (wife of WalterChaplin) died on 3 May 1930 and their estate passed probate on 5 June 1930 in London, England.^[10][11]
