She apparently had a son William Johnson b. abt 1862 from her first marriage who was living with them in 1870.
The Vail Genealogy, p. 169-70, says she "m. 1st, 29 Oct 1860, William Wallace Johnson, b. in Cornwall, CT, 12 July 1839; enlisted as corporal in 2d Connecticut Heavy Artillery, 18 Sept 1862; d. 30 Jan 1863. She m. 2d, 15 Aug 1866, Charles Ward Scarritt, b. in Wallingford, CT, 21 Aug 1837, son of Marcus Cook and Sarah Abigail Scarritt. He enlisted in Sept 1862, in the 2d Connecticut Light Battery. Children: (1) William Gilbert Johnson, b. 26 July 1861; (2) Bessie May Scarritt, b. in Bridgeport, CT, 5 Jan 1868."
There is a baptism in Cornwall Cong Ch Rec 3:345 for a Sarah Maria Vail, child of ____ , "on his wife's account, a member of the church in Tolland, Ms", dated 3 July 1835, which may be her.

↑ Source: #S7 obituary - Rome (NY) Daily Sentinel, Wed. Evening, May 26, 1915, p. 10: A telegram was received here yesterday announcing the death of Mrs. Charles W. Scarritt, which occurred at her home in Bridgeport, Conn., during the previous night. Mrs. Scarritt was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philander Vail, and one of 12 children. She was a sister of Mrs. H. H. Chapman and Mrs. Harriett Hall of this village [Camden]. She had been ill for some time, and her death was expected. She is survived by her husband, a son and daughter, and a stepdaughter. She also leaves two other sisters, and one brother in Connecticut.

Scarritt - Death came this morning to Sarah A., wife of Charles Scarritt at the home of her daughter, 1216 Iranistan avenue. Mrs. Scarritt was 80 years of age. She had resided in this city for the past 48 years, having spent most of that time on the East Side of the city. She was a prominent member of the Second Baptist church, and had a great number of friends in this city who will be grieved to learn of her death. Surviving her are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. G. H. Noble, and a son, William G. Johnson of New Haven.
