Obituary
Peter Valeta, 85, of North Huntingdon, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009. He was born June 8, 1924, in Irwin, a son of the late Samuel and Mary (Hegedus) Valeta; and was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary; and an infant brother, George. He was a retired employee of the U.S. Government, an Army veteran serving in World War II and retired from the Army Reserves after 30 years with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer No. 3. He was a member of New Stanton Assembly of God Church, a former member of the North Huntingdon Township Planning Commission and was an avid woodworker and harmonica player. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Eva E. (Henderson) Valeta; children, Peter J. Valeta and his wife, Mary Lou, of Wilmette, Ill., David Valeta and his wife, Gail, of Denver, Colo., and Barbara Diffendal and her husband, William, of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Eleanor (Andy) Mills, of Iowa City, Iowa, Emily and Anna Valeta, of Wilmette, and Matthew and Jessica Valeta, of Denver, Colo.; also seven brothers; five sisters; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Don Immel officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park. Those wishing may contribute to North Huntingdon Rescue No. 8 or the American Heart Association.
